Board of Supervisors
The Johnson County Board of Supervisors is composed of five members elected at large, each serving a four-year term. The Board of Supervisors is the legislative, policy-making, and administrative branch of county government. Their responsibilities include setting the annual county levy rate, certifying the annual budget, adopting and updating ordinances, guiding the strategic direction of the County, and other matters related to the health and welfare of Johnson County and its residents.
In April 2025 the State of Iowa passed a law (Senate File 75) requiring Johnson County to elect county supervisors by district, rather than the current at-large system. The County is working with the Secretary of State and Iowa Legislative Services Agency (LSA) to determine the new supervisor district boundaries. Up-to-date information regarding the Johnson County Supervisor Redistricting plan is available on the LSA website: https://www.legis.iowa.gov/publications/legalPubs/countyRedistricting.
