Johnson County signs purchase agreement for South Capitol Street properties
During its formal meeting on Thursday, July 9, 2026, the Board of Supervisors signed a purchase agreement for three parcels located on the NE corner of Capitol Street and Benton Street in Iowa City, for a total purchase price of $5.5 million.
The property was selected for its location and is intended to serve as a long-term county asset for future development needs. Johnson County also owns property on the same block at 821 S. Clinton St.

Wright Brothers Blvd to I-380 southbound ramp detour begins July 7
Weather permitting, the ramp from Wright Brothers Blvd. to I-380 Southbound will be closed for up to two months, beginning the morning of Tuesday, July 7. During this closure, construction crews will be working on building a new ramp. This will be one of the last steps to finalize the new Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI), which is anticipated to open later this year.
