Johnson County Sheriff’s Office Investigates Death in Lone Tree
Discover history, local food and tour the new commercial kitchen at the Historic Poor Farm Open House from 3 to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2026, at the Johnson County Historic Poor Farm (HPF), 4811 Melrose Avenue, Iowa City. The event is free and open to all ages.
The event will feature the soft launch of the HPF Kitchen, a shared-use commercial kitchen space for food and farm business entrepreneurs to expand their markets and capacity. A ribbon-cutting ceremony and tours of the new facility will begin at 3:45 p.m.

During its formal meeting on Thursday, July 9, 2026, the Board of Supervisors signed a purchase agreement for three parcels located on the NE corner of Capitol Street and Benton Street in Iowa City, for a total purchase price of $5.5 million.
The property was selected for its location and is intended to serve as a long-term county asset for future development needs. Johnson County also owns property on the same block at 821 S. Clinton St.
