Bridge structures on Derby and Greencastle Avenues closed until further notice

Bridge structures P-34-2 on Derby Avenue SW just south of 560th St SW and M-18-1 on Greencastle Avenue SW just south of IWV Rd SW will close to all traffic at 4:00 p.m. on April 11, 2025. These structures had previously been posted for a maximum of three (3) ton load restrictions and are inspected frequently. The most recent inspection showed advancing deterioration even with those precautions, necessitating their closure.   

Both structures are included in the County’s approved five-year program and are scheduled for replacement on an expedited basis.

Johnson County recommended minimum wage to increase to $13.02 per hour July 1, 2025

The Johnson County Board of Supervisors voted to increase the County’s recommended minimum wage to $13.02 per hour, effective Tuesday, July 1, 2025. The Board of Supervisors used Consumer Price Index data to set the increase, which is based on inflation.

Though the wage increase is symbolic in nature and unenforceable under State law, the Supervisors approved the increase to remain in line with the Board’s vote in September 2015 to begin phased increases. The Board of Supervisors has voted to increase the minimum wage in Johnson County since 2015.

Public hearing for Fiscal Year 2026 proposed budget to take place April 16

The Johnson County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on the Fiscal Year 2026 proposed county budget at 5:30 p.m. on April 16, 2025. The meeting will take place in conference room 203 on the second floor of the Johnson County Health and Human Services Building, 855 S. Dubuque Street, Iowa City. All budget work sessions will be livestreamed via the Johnson County website and Zoom.

During the public hearing, any resident or taxpayer may present objections to or arguments in favor of the proposed budget.
