Johnson County seeks provider for Juvenile Justice Diversion Expansion Programming

The Johnson County Board of Supervisors is accepting applications to implement the Juvenile Pre-Charge Diversion Coordination and Expansion Program in Johnson County. Pre-Charge Diversion programming will utilize best practices in juvenile justice and positive youth development to decrease youth involvement with the juvenile justice system and decrease disproportionality of youth of color in juvenile justice systems.

Orval Yoder Turnpike Bridge over Old Mans Creek closed for construction starting Tuesday, September 6, 2022

Weather permitting, the Orval Yoder Turnpike Bridge over Old Mans Creek will be closed to traffic starting Tuesday, September 6, 2022. This location is in southwestern Johnson County along Orval Yoder Turnpike SW south of Black Diamond Road SW/F52. Work includes bridge deck patching and concrete overlay, concrete approach paving, repair of undermined abutments, and painting of steel pile piers.

Construction is anticipated to be completed before November 2022. Cramer and Associates, Inc. of Grimes, Iowa is the prime contractor.

Construction begins Tuesday, September 6, 2022 on Half Moon Avenue Bridge over Deer Creek

Weather permitting, construction will begin on the Half Moon Avenue Bridge over Deer Creek starting Tuesday, September 6, 2022. The bridge is currently closed and will remain closed until construction is complete. This location is in west central Johnson County along Half Moon Avenue SW south of 340th Street SW and Interstate 80. Work includes complete bridge reconstruction, approach roadway, and grading.

Construction is anticipated to be completed by December 2022. Peterson Contractors, Inc. of Reinbeck, Iowa is the prime contractor.

Labor Day 2022 hours announced for Johnson County governmental offices

Most Johnson County governmental offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 5, 2022, in observance of Labor Day.

Detailed schedule changes include:

Ambulance: Johnson County Ambulance Service (JCAS) will be available for routine and emergency response. The JCAS billing and administrative offices will be closed. Emergency services remain available 365 days a year. In an emergency, residents should always dial 911.

Johnson County encourages residents to review the State of Iowa’s Broadband Availability Map

Johnson County residents are encouraged to review their broadband availability and provide input through a new map released by the State of Iowa.

The Broadband Availability Map identifies broadband coverage by individual address locations, showing whether broadband service greater or equal to 100 Mbps (megabits per second) download speed / 20 Mbps upload speed is available. Johnson County residents are invited to review the map and submit a challenge if broadband information about their household is incorrect by Friday, Sept. 2, 2022.
