The Johnson County Social Services Department is seeking volunteers for its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. VITA is a national program sponsored by the IRS and offers free tax preparation for federal and state tax returns for low- income families, persons with disabilities and those with limited English proficiency.

The Johnson County Auditor’s Office will be moving to the Health & Human Services Building (HHS Building), 855 S. Dubuque St., Iowa City, while construction takes place in the Administration Building, 913 S. Dubuque St., Iowa City.

Detailed schedule changes include:

Auditor’s Office: The Auditor’s Office will be closed to the public on Friday, Nov. 10, for the Veterans Day holiday and will reopen in its new location on the third floor of the HHS Building on Monday, Nov. 13.

Most Johnson County governmental offices will be closed on Friday, Nov. 10, 2023, in observance of Veterans Day.

Detailed schedule changes include:

Ambulance: Johnson County Ambulance Service (JCAS) will be available for routine and emergency response. The JCAS billing and administrative offices will be closed. Emergency services remain available 365 days a year. In an emergency, residents should always dial 911.

The Johnson County Veterans Affairs Department will light part of the Health & Human Services Building, 855 S. Dubuque St., Iowa City, green as part of Operation Green Light for Veterans, a nationwide effort by counties, the National Association of Counties (NACo), and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers.
