UPDATE: Victim Identified in Fatal House Fire Near West Branch
Pocket Prairie Program expands; homeowners throughout Johnson County eligible
Homeowners throughout Johnson County are eligible for the Johnson County Soil Health Pocket Prairie Program, which helps convert turf grass into pocket prairies. Priority will be given to residents of the unincorporated area (outside city limits).
Residents of Johnson County’s unincorporated area can apply online beginning at 9 a.m. CT, Wednesday, July 1. Residents within any city in Johnson County can apply beginning at 9 a.m. CT, Wednesday, July 15, for any spots that remain open. Approval for participation will be first-come, first-served based on applicant group.

Angle Road SW between Highway 1 and Cosgrove Road will be closed starting June 8
Weather permitting, Angle Road SW between Highway 1 and Cosgrove Road SW will be closed to through traffic starting Monday, June 08, 2026, for a bridge replacement approximately 0.6 miles northeast of Frytown.
Construction is anticipated to be completed by the end of June 2026.

Angle Road SW between Highway 1 and Cosgrove Road will be closed starting June 8
Weather permitting, Angle Road SW between Highway 1 and Cosgrove Road SW will be closed to through traffic starting Monday, June 08, 2026, for a bridge replacement approximately 0.6 miles northeast of Frytown.
Construction is anticipated to be completed by the end of June 2026.
Construction on X14/Wapsi Ave SE to begin June 2
Weather permitting, construction on X14/Wapsi Ave SE between Highway 22 and 520th Street will begin on Tuesday, June 2.
The road will generally remain open to traffic during construction. However, motorists should expect delays due to daytime lane closures. Traffic will be reduced to one lane during working hours and controlled by flaggers and pilot cars. Both lanes will be open to traffic at night except for unusual circumstances.
Construction is anticipated to be completed by early August 2026.
