Each year, as part of the annual budget process, Johnson County designates a portion of the General Basic funds for allocation in grant funding.  The awarded grants are intended to support established nonprofit organizations that provide services that improve the quality of life by addressing basic human needs, child & family well-being, and health & mental health for Johnson County residents. The monies are distributed through the Social Services Block Grant agreements and are generally awarded as discretionary funds.

The Hunger Relief Grant funds are awarded to local agencies to assist with services that help reduce food insecurity and improve access to healthy food for residents residing in or near food deserts. These funds are awarded as non-discretionary funds.

The Emergency funding agreements are awarded to assist with short- term or one-time needs that support capacity building, sustaining services, innovative new programming or the purchase of equipment/supplies.  These funds are also awarded as non-discretionary funds.
