The Johnson County Direct Assistance Program application appeal process begins today, Monday, June 13, and will end at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2022.

The appeal process is for applicants who need to provide additional documentation or information to be considered eligible for the program. All individuals who applied for the program have received notification of the status of their application through the email address they submitted when they applied.

The Johnson County Empowerment/Early Childhood Iowa Area Board is seeking new members to serve three-year terms beginning September 2022. The board is made up of family members of children ages 0-5, citizens, providers, community volunteers and elected officials.

Most Johnson County governmental departments and offices will be closed on Monday, June 20, 2022, in observance of Juneteenth.

Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, 2 ½ years after the Emancipation Proclamation, Union soldiers sailed into Galveston, Texas, and read aloud the order, freeing a quarter of a million slaves who were residing in the state.
