County Assessor

Iowa law requires property owners to report any changes that could affect their property value. Property owners in Johnson County need to report any building changes made since January 1, 2025. If the property has not changed, residents DO NOT need to report. Response deadline is Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025.

The Johnson County Assessor’s Office updated the property change reporting process for rural property owners. In the past, postcards were mailed as double cards with prepaid postage. Due to higher mailing costs and low return rates, the office has transitioned to electronic reporting.

Property owners now have three ways to report changes:

  1. Online: Visit www.johnsoncountyiowa.gov/Johnson-IA-Assessor and enter your parcel ID number(s) and click on “Data Update Form”
  2. By phone or email: Contact the Assessor’s Office at 319-356-6078 or [email protected]
  3. In person: Visit the Assessor’s Office on the second floor of the Administration Building, 913 S Dubuque St, Iowa City
