55+ RSVP- Retired Senior Volunteer Program - A Program of the United Way of Johnson & Washington Counties

RSVP is one of the largest volunteer networks in the nation for people 55 and better. It is a federal program under Senior Corps, which is part of the Corporation for National and Community Service. Housed locally by United Way of Johnson & Washington Counties. The United Way 55+ RSVP Program serves three counties - Johnson, Muscatine, and Des Moines. Engages community members 55+ in meaningful volunteer opportunities to meet community needs that benefit citizens of all ages as well as enrich the life of the volunteer.

Services include: Pathways Adult Day Health Center, transportation, minor and major home repairs including snow removal and lawn mowing services.

TRAIL of Johnson County

The mission of TRAIL of Johnson County -- our name stands for Tools and Resources for Active Independent Living -- is to help older adults remain in their own homes as long as possible, by providing access to needed services and socializing opportunities. For a monthly fee, TRAIL members receive three primary benefits: the services of a volunteer network for simple house chores and errands, transportation, medical advocacy, and other needs; and opportunities to participate in social and educational opportunities with other TRAIL members.

North Liberty Transportation Assistance Program (NLTAP)

For $1 per ride, qualified North Liberty residents can call a taxi (contracted with Yellow Cab and Yellow Transport) to pick up groceries, get to the bank, visit a doctor, connect to a bus, or certain other essential quality-of-life trips scheduled Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. or Saturday 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Residents can be eligible for this program because they don’t have access to vehicle, face financial difficulty, or are permanently or temporarily disabled.
