Juvenile Charged with Serious Injury by Motor Vehicle, Leaving the Scene of an Accident
September 15, 2026 (JOHNSON COUNTY, IA) On August 27, 2026, at 8:05pm, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and emergency services responded to a single vehicle versus pedestrian collision in the 4200 block of 180th St. NE, Solon. Witnesses reported a vehicle struck a pedestrian walking alongside the road. The vehicle did not stop and left the accident scene. The victim was transported by air ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with serious, life-threatening injuries.
Today, September 15, 2026, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office charged a 17 year-old juvenile with Serious Injury by Motor Vehicle (Class D Felony); Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Serious Injury (Class D Felony); and Preventing/Obstructing Prosecution (Aggravated Misdemeanor). The juvenile was transported to the Linn County Juvenile Detention Center and is awaiting an initial juvenile court hearing.
The case remains under investigation by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office. The Iowa State Patrol, Solon Fire Department, North Liberty Fire Department, Johnson County Ambulance Service, and University of Iowa AirCare assisted with this incident.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty. No further information is available at this time.
