Planning, Development and Sustainability

Residents of unincorporated Johnson County and the small cities of Hills, Lone Tree, Oxford, Shueyville, Solon and Swisher are eligible for no-cost home energy audits. Energy audits identify steps needed to reduce home energy use, increase indoor comfort and save money on energy bills.

The program is open to homeowners, and renters can participate with their landlord’s permission. These non-metro area audits are provided by Green Iowa AmeriCorps through a collaboration between the City of Iowa City and Johnson County.

The audit blower door test, which measures air leaks, may not be possible in apartments; however, the audit is still able to identify areas where air may be leaking in or out of the home.

The audit team can accommodate residents’ schedules for the home visits. To sign up for a free audit, visit the Green Iowa AmeriCorps application form online or call the team at 319-339-5399.
