The Johnson County Administration Building, 913 S. Dubuque St., Iowa City, underwent major remodeling beginning in October 2023. Construction is nearing completion, resulting in a complete remodel of the interior, installation of new HVAC and fire suppression systems, as well as major accessibility upgrades and other service-centered improvements. This has created additional space for future County needs.

County services relocated from the Administration Building to the Health and Human Services Building, 855 S. Dubuque St., Iowa City, during construction will move back in phases throughout August. As this date draws closer, Johnson County will share more detailed information regarding when specific departments will be relocated, helping residents plan and access services conveniently.

Funding for this project is sourced through a combination of general funds and American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) federal funds, with a firm commitment that taxes will not be raised to finance the remodel.

Johnson County remains committed to delivering high-quality services while creating a safer, more accessible, and productive environment for all residents and staff.
