Building an Employee Diversity Training Program

  • Value of Lunch & Learn:  Is it really changing anybody’s mind?  There is good information.  It’s usually not well attended.  Most people only go to it because they already have an interest in the topic.  Not more than 1 per quarter.  It should not be the backbone of the D & I training.  We should move it around to other office and not just at AB or HHS buildings.
  • What are you interested in learning about:  Send your suggestions to Paola.
  • Online trainings:  Probably get 2 on-line diversity classes for everyone to take.  Also have new employees take the classes.  Make sure it is not mandatory, but part of Respectful Workplace training.

Update on Language Access Planning:  Make this program centralized Low English proficiency members of the public.  Spanish and Mandarin are the 2 most frequent languages beside English.  At home most frequent languages are Spanish, French, and Swahili.  Public Health is already working on this initiative through language interpretation and translation.  They will be a pilot program 9/26-9/30 collecting which languages are used by the public they see.
