Description Of Organization And Services

The Iowa City Senior Center (ICSC) enhances the quality of life by creating opportunities to support wellness, social connections, community engagement, and lifelong learning for a diverse and growing older adult population.  Located in the historic post office on the corner of Linn and Washington Streets in downtown Iowa City, ICSC has been serving adults aged 50+ since 1981. Classes are taught by knowledgeable instructors and independent contractors in a wide range of areas, including art, current events, dance, environment, fitness, literature, languages, history, philosophy, religion, science, technology, wellness, and more. Many groups and clubs offer opportunities to get involved with music, dance, theatre performance, video production, leisure activities, and social activities. Free professional services are available to the public, including legal counseling, health insurance counseling, advance care planning, and income tax preparation. ICSC also provides support to local agencies that offer services to seniors, including the Visiting Nurse Association and TRAIL (Tools and Resources for Active, Independent Living). Membership is available to anyone age 50 and above and carries many benefits. Members can use the fitness areas, painting studio, and billiards room; participate in classes and activities reserved for members only; receive reduced participation fees for some classes; and discounted parking while visiting the Senior Center.
