On Tuesday, January 19, this site will report turnout statistics throughout the day. Following the close of the polls at 9 p.m., we will post election returns.

Turnout Updates

Precincts report turnout at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 3 p.m., and 6 p.m. Turnout by precinct will be posted at these times. (Registrations statistics current through January 17.)

We will post results by precincts. Your browser may save pages for later viewing. To be sure to get the latest results, reload the page.

When will results be available?

Early voting results will be posted promptly at 9 p.m. After 9 p.m. we will update returns as quickly as they are reported in from the 57 polling places. Precincts will phone in with their results.

Results on Cable TV

Results will be available on Iowa City Cable TV channel 5. We will post grand total results and information on which precincts have reported.

View Results at Auditor's Office

Results will be displayed for the public at the County Administration Building, 913 S. Dubuque St., beginning at 9 p.m. Visitors will see the same display as cable viewers.

E-mailed Results

We will email precinct by precinct results to our regular list of news media contacts. Please contact our office with any changes or corrections to addresses. Format and layout will be the same as the returns page on the website. If your news organization requires a fax, please contact our office.

Number of Precincts

There are 58 precincts in this election. This includes the 57 election day polling places. The includes the 57 election day polling places. The 58th precinct is early voting, which is counted as a separate precinct. Early voting results will be a grand total for the while county and will NOT be broken out by precinct.

When are the results final?

Once the poll workers have returned their supplies to our office, our staff will review the printouts from the voting machines and make any corrections. Once all corrections are made, results will include the heading "Final Election Night Results." These will be the last returns posted on January 19.

Vote totals will likely change in the days following the election as provisional ballots and late arriving absentee ballots with timely postmarks are counted.

All election results are unofficial until the official canvass of votes, conducted by the Johnson County Board of Supervisors on January 25. The winner will take office after the canvass.

Following the canvass, result will include the heading "Official Canvassed Results." These results will remain on our site permanently as a historic record.
