MEETING MINUTES
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15th, 2020 9AM-10AM
Via Zoom Meeting
- Members Present: Maysa Ahmed, Kelli Andresen, Keshia Fields, John Hannaford, Camie Marshek, Annie Nugent, Alyssa Palante, Lynn Rose, and Kelly Weston. Kate Klefstad from Public Health joined the meeting.
- Approval of Minutes: Approved minutes of August 18, 2020
- Next Meeting Date and Time: Tuesday, October 22, 2020
- Ice Breaker: Is there someone in your family or do you know someone with a disability?
Several responded. Some had family who were disabled, some worked with disabled.
- Presentation: Linda Kuster from Vernon Research Group. Linda is the President of Vernon Research. She told us about the services they provide. They have done several diversity type surveys for Diversity Focus. They do surveys, in person focus groups, and on-line interviews. There is internal or community wide data gathering. We have to decide how to conduct the survey, what we want to learn from the data, and how to use the data we receive. There is Qualitative data: In person, focus groups, more emotion based open ended questions. There is Quantitative data: Send out survey, some open ended questions, more multi choice answers. We can do just for D & I Committee or include departments. Public Health is interested, Kate Klefstad discussed. They may do their own separate project. Timeframe for survey is 6-8 weeks start to finish. Linda can help us with developing. Price is $5,000-$12,000.
- Budget Balance: $11,312.38
- D&I Committee Strategic Plan: D& I Ambassadors – Alyssa and Annie. JoCo Weekly article asking for other volunteer ambassadors. Maybe 8-10 people. Have shirts designating them.
New Employee Survey – Donna, Alyssa, Keshia. Working on this now. Will be separate from other survey discussed above.

If you are doing an article for the JoCo Weekly, please provide a date of when you will submit it and what topic you will discuss. I would like these a month in advance.
September Article Maysa. Article will be in this week JoCo Weekly. Maysa is looking for lunch & learn speakers. She has a speaker for 10/7 at 1:00. Speaker from UI Hardin Library, topic is How to ID fake news.
October – Heather. Article on Fanny Lou Hammer civil rights activist.
October – Annie (received). Article on Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Qualtrics. This is a surveying software that Public Health Dept uses. It can be used by D & I Committee. Keshia has a zoom meeting demo on Thurs. Email her if you want to join.
21 Day Racial Equity Challenge - Oct 5th – November 2nd. This sponsored by the United Way. There is a flyer in the Microsoft Teams files folder.
Hispanic Heritage Month is 9/15-10/15. If you have a favorite book, movie, podcast, etc, add to the list in Microsoft Teams post.
Camie’s last meeting with D & I Committee. Camie is leaving for another job. She has been a great asset to the D & I Committee. She has been very supportive and involved in the committee and will be missed.
