William J. White was born February 14th 1885 in Estaline, Dakota Territory and later came to Iowa with his mother settling in Iowa City. In 1905 he joined I Co. of the 50th Iowa National Guard and served until 1908. He served a short time with D Troop, 1st Cavalry, Iowa National Guard in 1916. In 1918 during WWI he was stationed on the Mexican Border with B Co. , 2nd Battalion of the U. S. Guards. After WWI he returned to Iowa City and was appointed Iowa City Assessor, an office he held until his death on February 17, 1948.
