William D. Halleran was born 11/21/1947. He was born and raised in North Merrick, Long Island.

Bill entered the U.S. Navy in November 1966. He was sent to the Great Lakes Naval Training Center. He reported aboard the USS Rowan, a destroyer at Naval Station San Diego, CA. On the USS Rowan he made three WESTPAC cruises to Vietnam. During this time Bill earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

He was honorably discharged in December 1970 as a Boilerman 2nd Class. After his discharge, Bill worked for the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Iowa City, Iowa as a boiler plant operator and retired in 1997 as a utility operations supervisor.

In retirement Bill hopes to travel when he can and also attend Veteran functions in Iowa to include the American Legion in Lone Tree and the American Veterans in Richmond.
