Leroy E Weekes was one of 90 Iowa World War II Veterans whose body was returned aboard the Army transport Lawrence Victory to the New York City port. Sgt. Weekes was killed in action on July 10, 1944, in Goucherie, France. Sgt Weekes was a part of a force which was given the mission of attacking and occupying a road junction north of St. Lo, France. He is buried in St. Mere Eglise Cemetery, France. In performance of this mission he was struck and killed instantly by enemy rifle fire. Leroy served Honorably, and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal.

S SGT Orville J Van Eck HQ BTRY HD C was inducted into the United States Army on December 30, 1942 and entered Active service January 6, 1943 at Ft. Custer, Michigan. He was Honorably discharged February 12, 1946 at Ft. Sheridan, Illinois. Orville served as a Meteorologist earning a Victory Medal American Theater Ribbon, 1 Service Stripe, and the Good Conduct Medal.
