Tom Cannon, a lifelong citizen of Johnson County, served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict.

Drafted in 1967, Tom soldiered as a 63B wheeled vehicle mechanic for 3rd BN 5th Infantry while deployed to Panama. SPC Cannon was quickly placed into service due to experience gained from helping his dad at their service station in Iowa City. SPC Cannon was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and obtained Expert on the M-14 Rifle.

Upon his return home, Tom married his high school sweet heart Sue Booker, had three boys, and proceeded to become a successful business owner and family man in Johnson County. Tom’s sons have all served honorably in the U.S. Army.
