I was born in Urbana, IL 29, May 1940. I moved to Iowa City in Aug of 1944.  I graduated from Iowa City High School 1958, and the University of Iowa BA 1962. I commissioned as a 2nd Lt. through Iowa Air ROTC.  I then married Karen (Dee) Deegan in July, 1962.
 
Military Assignments:
USAF pilot training Webb AFB Big Spring, TX class 64-C 1962-63.
Winter mountain survival training Stead AFB, Reno, NV Nov.1963.
F-100 Training Luke AFB, Phoenix, AZ 1963-64. First assignment Cannon AFB, Clovis, NM 1964-66, 2 deployments Missawa, Japan & Kunsan, Korea 1964-65. Tan San Nhut, VN 1965 flew 130 missions with 481st TFS.
Second assignment Luke AFB as F-100 I. Last 6 months TDY Egland AFB, Ft. Walton Beach, FL Separated 22 Oct. 1967.
 
I spent one year in Lincoln, NE before returning to Iowa City and Iowa Book LLC in Aug. 1968.  I have managed Iowa Book LLC since Feb. 1973.
 
I have 3 children:
Eric W. 22 Oct. 1963 born the day I received my wings at Webb AFB
Kirstin D. (Oppel) 21 Jan. 1966 my last day at Cannon AFB
Kurt C.  9 Dec.1967 Lincoln, NE
