Lenny served in the Army from September 1965 to September 1967. He received Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and was then assigned to Fort Sam Houston, Texas for Medical Lab training. He was then assigned to a medical research and nutrition Lab at Fitzsimons General Hospital in Denver, Colorado. The primary function of his assignment was to research diets for military with a highlight of running nutrition tests on 18 military personnel at sea level for 10 days and nights on Pikes Peak (14,110’)

Lenny departed service in September 1967 as a SP5.
