Floyd was born in Cleveland, Ohio June 12th, 1929, the first of 13 children. He attended the University of Dayton and then enlisted in the United States Air Force July 6th, 1951. He was honorably discharged from active military service July 5th, 1955. While in Korea, one of his proudest accomplishments was to help establish a children's orphanage. Floyd remained with the United States Federal Government in a civilian capacity, first as Manager of Personnel at Toul-Rosiere Air Force Base in France, where he met his future wife Antoinette, then at the Rock Island Arsenal as a Management Consultant until his retirement in August of 1985.

Medals earned: Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Commendation Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.
