Ed was born November 11, 1917 at Junction, Illinois. He entered military service on June 21, 1941 by enlisting in the Army Air Corps. He served on continuous duty until April 30, 1963. He served in the Aircraft Maintenance career field. He served in the American Campaign Theater during World War II as a flight engineer. During the Korean Conflict he served as an Aircraft Maintenance Technician from July 1950 to April 1952. In 1955 Ed married Dorothy Gorman. Dorothy was from Hills, IA.

Ed was awarded the following service awards: Good Conduct Medal with Silver Clasp and 1 loop, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with 2 Battle Stars, Air Force Longevity Service Award with 4 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters & the United Nations Service Award.

After his Military service he worked as a mechanic for the Post Office in St Louis, Missouri & he was also an owner of a Mobil gas station in St. Louis.
