Dwight Halan Shaffer was drafted out of High School June 13, 1945 in to the United States Army. He enlisted in to the United States Air Force November 8, 1945 serving in that capacity until June 30, 1949. He then enlisted in to the United States Air Force Reserves where he served until July 13, 1968. Dwight then enlisted in to the Army National Guard May 2, 1974 where he served Honorably until Retiring January 1, 1987.

Staff Sergeant Dwight H. Shaffer’s military occupations consisted of Rifleman, Radio Operator, Carbine Marksman, and Dental Specialist.

Medals earned: World War II Victory Medal, Army Occupation Medal, Germany Occupation Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, and the Iowa State Service Ribbon.
